Default LOOOOoooongggg lag time on acceleration!

Howdy!

I have a 1986 740 turbo intercooler wagon with 258,000 miles on the clock. It has been losing power and taking a longer and longer time between when I press the gas pedal and when it actually starts to accelerate. It sure doesn't have the pep it had when I bought it with 237,000 miles on it. Over the last few months, it has just kept getting worse and worse. The weather just got warmer and I adjusted my belts. This made the problem seem three to five times as bad as before. My MPG had gone down as well. The longer it stays running, the longer it takes to actually begin accelerating.

HELP!

John

I will start there. I have to say, I am the worst on finding air leaks. Any pointers on where to start? I had been planning on giving it a tune up in the very near future. Maybe I'll start there instead. What all should I replace when tuning up? Plugs, wires, cap, condenser, and rotor-bug on a VW bug, I know. Anything else?

Look for the Leak with the Car running spraying Carb or Brake cleaner. If the Idle changes there is a leak.

Sounds like you already covered all the Tune-up stuff.

As for check for the air leaks, will starting fluid or just a can of WD-40 work . . . or should I actually go out and get a can of spray Barryman B-12?

Found no air leaks, but got the shock of my life when I went to buy tune up parts. The cost of the parts is more than Tune Up Master's usually charges for the whole deal. Anyone know where to get a good deal on Volvo ignition parts?

Edit: Since this has been getting progressively worse over the past few months, maybe it's the catalytic converter(the lesser of the two evils) or possibly the (shudder!) the turbo charger(the greater evil). Anyone know where to get these at a nice price?
