Missing A switch

Any idea what switch goes in that spot??? It's a 1992 Volvo 240 Sedan Thanks |
That's where my 'SRS' badge sits -- no switch on mine... (1991 Volvo 240 Sedan).
|
Thanks, Gives me an idea of what to look for. After looking again, I thought, maybe not a switch. Either a light or a knob. So an SRS badge makes sense.
|
I believe it fits a rotary knob for the European market. Probably works something like the headlight wipers or whatnot.

I guess I'm having second thoughts about it being an SRS badge.
I realised today that there's a "dumby" light in my dash cluster that says SRS. It's always on, I'm guessing there's something wrong with the system. But anyway, it seems redundant to have two lights. I haven't seen an on/off switch for the system so I don't imagine the badge would just let me know that it's on or off. Nor do I imagine that it would be telling me the same thing as the "dummy" light. So either the light is telling my passenger that the car is equipped with SRS, which seems cruel as I don't believe that the car is equipped with a passenger side air bag or it's telling the driver that the car is equipped with an air bag, but if that's the case, and the driver needs more than the big SRS printed in the steering wheel to know that the car has an air bag, then the driver shouldn't be driving to begin with. |
It's the diagnostic port for the srs. The srs light on the dash is telling you their is a defect in the srs system. Hopefully someone will chime in with instruction and the codes.

Yeah sorry for poor clarity. There is only one light, and that's in the instrument cluster. I would just remove the air bag with caution as it would cost too much to fix.
|
Not a bad idea, I think I'd rather spend the money on a cool steering wheel then on getting that thing fixed... Although, I've got a feeling it would be an easy fix. It looks to me like the PO tried to put in an aftermarket horn and may have just messed up the wiring. But this might just be a good excuse to get a grant or mono wheel. :-)
|
Not totally sure about this, but....
Here in CA, if you remove an airbag, are injured in a crash, the insurance company can deny your claim. Please check with your insurance carrier before removing it. |
I don't think its just a California thing, I'm pretty sure its a federal thing, and not just an insurance thing but an actual crime. I might just get my windows tinted a shade to dark too.

Score! Today I went to the salvage yard. I found the center console that goes around the e-brake, the shift lever console, the 52mm clock and big tach, a oil pressure gauge, a voltameter, and lots of other cool stuff... But I didn't find a SRS badge to go over that spot... Grabbed a few other switches and knobs that maybe I can put in its place.
|
Just put a big button there that says NOS, so you can impress Dom Torreto.
;) Nice finds at the yard BTW. |
Have you used the diagnostic port yet? What code did you get.

I feel that in an early 90's Volvo 240 a button that said "Warp Drive" might be more appropriate then a NOS button, but both would have there own kinda humor.
I haven't checked the codes yet. My "Check engine" light comes on for a minute or two each day while I'm driving. I'll check that as well but that'll be next week before I can get to that. But I'll let you know when I do or if I have any questions about it... |
"Check engine" or "Service"? The service light is a mileage nag. Pull the rubber plug out of the dash and poke something in to reset. The "minute or two" is the clue I'm picking up on.
