I may have bitten off more than I can chew.
I have bought a volvo 240 estate barn find (idiot find) and i started to 'do her up' after the water pump and belts i started to work on the rusty body work.. I wanted to learn to weld so i thought i'd try it upside down with about 2 feet at a push of wiggle room.. after a lot of swearing i found some big arse holes in the side of the front foot wells. I took the fender off and thats as far a s I've got. I'm not sure whether to cut into the chasis panel to weld a piece onto the inside to stop water pouring through or try to redirect the flow from the cowlings or just gaffer tape them up :0)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

at first glance yep that's going to be interesting. with rust it's always when you find some you'll always find more. good luck.
i'm guessing you're in the uk? so suggesting don't drive in the rain might not be very helpful !!

i don’t even have a garage 😂 i’ll keep the tarpaulin over it for the 300 days when it is raining here, should be dry about lunch time for the other 65 days...
i think cutting into the side looks like my best bet to fix it!

yes indeed it does rain quite a bit in blighty as i remember... ! you may also consider after cutting the bad rust areas out and patching, to use a product like POR-15
on the spots that are solid enough...
