need help wiring an electric fan

1 Attachment(s)
I want/need to install and wire up an aux. electric 'pusher' fan for my ac condenser in my 87 240 wagon. I want to just go for simplicity and run it to a illuminated toggle switch in the car. My senses tell me to use a 4 pin relay and wire it up. i dont want to just run the fan to a toggle switch, because wouldnt i burn up the wires? (i.e., ground the fan, then run a wire to the switch and a 'hot' wire to the battery or the fuse box?- this doesn't seem safe) I'd rather the fan not be able to come on when the car is off for obvious reasons. Any tips? a simple schematic would help a lot . i have one drawn up, just need someone with more knowledge than me verify it please.

Here is how I would wire the fan:

Use the ACC (switched 12v) for your LED switch, run your this line to pin 86 on your relay.
From your battery THROUGH A FUSE run a wire to pin 30 of the relay.
From the POSITIVE side of the fan run a wire to pin 87 of the relay.
Connect the NEGATIVE side of the fan to a good ground.
Use a marine fuse holder, I don't know if you have the 25 amp under the hood fuse or not. If so and you haven't done so already, now would be a good time to do so using a marine fuse holder.
Use a relay socket (makes installing, and trouble shooting easier).

For the wiring under the hood: I recently, put my headlights on relays. I got my wire from Home Depot, 14 gauge 90 degrees C, so far no problems.

If you can use solder connections with heat shrink insulation. Keep the wiring as short as possible and well routed.

Here is where I got my parts:

You may have a supplier closer.
Good Luck
