Default trans cooler line to radiator

Hi folks, 1990 940 with 149K and the original radiator. So I need to change it to prevent the dreaded ATF contamination which might happen if the oil cooler bursts. Problem I have is I am not familiar with the cooler line fitting to the radiator (see attached first pic ). There is a big hex fitting built into the rad, with another 14 mm or so fitting and then another short hex nut...What is the best way to dismantle this lot without killing the fitting? It does not look like the middle nut can travel very far...The lower fitting (see second pic ) looks a bit simpler. Has anyone experience with this? thanks for any ideas...Mike

Squirt some of your favorite weasel juice on and behind the fitting that screws into the rad. The fitting is like that at a brake caliper: gland nut w/ flared tube. Double wrench rad fitting and the gland nut. Work the gland nut both ways a bit, holding the radiator fitting still.
Then double wrench the hose and gland nut and loosen. You may have to wiggle this back and forth a bit to loosen the crud between.

If the oil cooler bursts, you have larger problems than ATF contamination, the cooler is a metal spiral tube in the tank. Failure indicates severe corrosion......

The gland nut is what actually screws into the bulkhead fitting on the cooler and surrounds the tubing.
The lower fitting looks as if it was retrofitted with 1/8" pipe threaded into the gland nut.

Default thanks

thanks Ed...I will have a go and sort it this weekend. The fact that the rad has lasted 21 years is testament to the full service history the car had when I bought it in 2002 and that I have changed the antifreeze every couple of years since and run it at the recommended 50%, so the corrosion has probably been minimized, but I realise I have been pushing my luck massively to leave it this long to change the rad...If you look after them, Volvos are wonderfully durable cars. My old Rovers and other British cars just dissolved like giant tylenols in the rain no matter what I did.
