Default need technical info on '95 940

Hey. I just moved to Tallahassee where my sister has been going to college for a couple of years now and thus have become responsible for taking care of her car. Just what I need on top of keeping up a 1983 mercedes. At any rate I could use all of the technical jargon for the vehicle (specifically the internal designation for the engine) so that I can do some in depth research. It's a 1995 naturally aspirated four cylinder.

well, at the moment the car has some funny little electrical gremlins. I had a bunch of stuff to do today and couldn't get around to even checking it out but on any other car I would just assume alternator issues. However, I've heard that volvos can have some funny little electrical problems and because of the intricacy of when the car will work and won't (I would include that but don't remember the specifics of it) I'm a little worried it might be more complex.

But because I haven't even taken a look at the car yet I figure I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. At the moment I'm more interested in knowing what type of engine, transmission etc. are in the car (ie: OM617 inline 5 turbo diesel in my benz,). Stuff like whether the car has a timing chain or belt and that sort of thing would also be appreciated.

The car has a timing belt with 50k intervals. Not a 0 tolerance engine.
The engine is a B230F.
The tranny is a AW70/71 unless specified otherwise on the plate on the tranny.

These engines if taken care of can go 500k easy.

See what kind of problems the car has and post it and I will help you through it.
