Need wiring diagram for ignition switch
I recently posted my no starting problem and learned I needed a fuel pump relay.
I got that but before I try it I'd like to put the ignition switch back together. I had to dismantle it as the hot wire had come un-sottered - I was in too big a hurry and didn't write down where the wires went! Anyone? |
which car year/model ?

Ignition wiring question
Hi Pierce -
Oh - so sorry - 1986 240 DL Wagon. I just collected all the 'cold' wires and bundled them and then link the hot wire to that and touch that bundle to the starter wire. It worked fine like that to get home but I'm concerned that one of those wires shouldn't be linked directly to the hot wire and may ruin the new fuel pump relay (?) Thanks! |
lets see...
pin 30 is Red 4mm wire, battery power input (2 of them in later cars) pin 50 is Blue 1.5mm, starter solenoid pin 15 is a Blue-Yellow 4mm wire, ignition and fuses 11-12-13 (run and start) pin 15 also has a Red-Black wire to the alternator light (not sure where this is spliced in) pin X is a Yellow 4mm wire, headlights and aux fuses 1-2-3 pin S has a white-red wire to the seat belt annoyer. AFAIK, P and R are no-connect on a 1986. this info from greenbook TP-30934/1 Wiring Diagrams 240 1986. note hte wiring colors change on different years of 240s, for instance, a 1991 has a pink starter wire and a blue ignition wire. on the 1991 diagrams, R is labeled 15R and is where the blue '15' wires are connected. the original 15 is later 15I, and has the blue-yellow to the fuses. Confusing? you betcha. |
