Hello everyone! My name is Johnny and my girlfriend just purchased an original 1975 245 DL. It has a few issues and I’m new to this fuel injection system so I thought I’d ask for some assistance. It has a hard time cold starting, once it’s warmed up it’s instant. Then a little bit of a rough idle, but the biggest issue is the hesitation when trying to take off. At low speeds it hesitates but you can put it to the floor and once it catches up it goes. I suspect that the fuel is old and needs to be draining then refilled with fresh new fuel. Anyways, just trying to get some ideas on what might be wrong. Thanks!!

beautiful early 240!

that car has an early FI system called CIS also known as KE-Jetronics or just K-Jet for short. sadly not many people left are familiar with it, Volvo switched to LH electronic injection circa 1983.

stumbling off idle can be caused by air leaks in the intake system, such as the seals around the injectors where they plug into the intake manifold. bad starting can be caused by a non-functioning cold start injector, if that version has one, some just had a pressure booster thing on a thermoswitch that runs for a few seconds at start, I forget what its called. also, erratic idle can be caused by a flakey idle air control valve, IF that early engine has one.

for sure if it has old gas, you want to drain as much as practical and get a full tank of fresh gas, maybe change the fuel filter too. CIS runs at like 80 PSI fuel pressure, so be sure to get new gaskets or seals for anything you take apart.

sadly, I'm mostly familiar with the LH systems of the 80s and 90s. about the only K-Jet I've dug around on was a Mercedes (they used it until 1992).
