New Here ...1986 Volvo 740d
hello,
I dont have a volvo yet, but today I'm looking to purchase this '86 740d. The owner claims it has a blown head gasket and will sell for cheap. I'm hoping I can fix it myself and thought maybe I could get advice on here :). I've never worked on diesels before...so maybe you guys could give me some tips or warnings. It only has 68k miles.... http://b.im.craigslist.org/Kp/8O/hip...qrKpBgefku.jpg http://a.im.craigslist.org/zx/3Y/43Y...QApQAdXxkS.jpg |
RE: New Here ...1986 Volvo 740d
So I looked at it today.
It's a GLE turbo to be exact. The turbo is fubar...atleast it's seals arethat is, since it's obviously spewing oil all around the compresser housing. Also, since it's diesel, it doesnt start because of lack of compression. He told me that not one mechanic in town would fix it because no one knew how to work on diesels and no mechanic near by "had the tools" for it. WTF? Do these engines need some special tools...so special that no non-diesel mechanic would be willing to purchase such tools? I'm very discouraged now on my being able to do this on my own....does anyone have any input on this? |
