But there are also plenty of streets, driveways and parking lots to negotiate.

Just dropping in to check on everyone, the old wagon is still rolling, piling up it's 300+ miles every week.
I have had a few issues over the summer that I have been less than successful in resolving, however.
The first problem came along one day in early July when she refused to start one morning, a check revealed no power at the solenoid. Probably the ignition switch, but all my attempts at removing it failed. I had the entire dash apart, I simply don't have the tools or skill to get at it. So, I bypassed it with a wire off the fuse panel and a push button momentary. Farmer mechanic skills do come in handy. No factory wires were cut or damaged.
After that, my cruise control quit, no idea on that, but I sure do miss it.
Last week my speedometer died, just started it up one day and zip, nothing. I was dismayed to learn that this system is also, electrical. I guess I get to clean some contacts and hope she starts working again.
The joys of owning an old car I suppose.

hmmm. I couldnt find any procedures in my collection of greenbooks (the VCOA distributed 240/260 series DVD).
the ignition *switch* is plugged into the back of the ignition key, they are two seperate parts. maybe you can get to it if you remove the instrument panel, you do this by removing the trim panels on either side, and there's 4 screws, and the instrument panel pulls straight out the front, then carefully disconnect the wires from the back of it, being sure to note what wire goes where for reassembly (and if you do NOT have a TACH, do NOT connect the red/white wire!!!).
