new noise, new leek!
my rear diff started makeing a awfull grind/scrapeing noise. it was allways leaking fluid at the back of the diff by the pan and now since this new noise it is also driping out the front of the diff where the driveshaft goes in. also there is alot of play where the shaft goes in to the diff if I twist it back and fourth.
Hi If you live in the states check out,(car-part.com).You can locate a part near you and also get the lowest price available. It will give you an idea of the going price while you shop around. It sounds like that rear end ran dry a few times.Good luck!
On my truck (not a volvo) I would get this weird clunk every once in a while then one nite I got this truly awful grinding noise from the rear end when I let up off the throttle. I drove gently home and the next day I discovered the big nut under the flange on the differential had loosened up. I tightened it and it has been 3 years now with no prob. I hope yours is as easy to fix. Volvo rear ends are VERY heavy. It is not a good idea to drive with a leaking trans or diff. This is a leak to fix.
changed front roller bearing and cup seal... my old bearing came out in peices the rollers were flat spoted. The leek in front of diff is gone. at any speed there is a scream/whistle comes and goes from the rear diff.
