New to Volvo

Hi, I’m looking into getting a 240 Wagon, as a daily/ project car. Something reliable that I can be doing work to little by little. I will admit I’m new to Volvo’s and quite honestly working on cars in general as well lol. I Would love some tips, tricks, advice, and just overall things to look out for and think about when it comes to Volvo’s during this discerning process. Would appreciate anything! Thanks

Buy a 240, non rusty one, then see what you have to do, go from there. Plenty of help on many levels here and elsewhere.

240 260 buying tips

IMHO...buy a 740 or 940. Easier to diy in some areas and usually cheaper. However I do own a '92 240...'89 740...'91 745...'92 940.

later 740's, and 940s are really much nicer cars than 240s. they are more comfortable, quieter, have much better HVAC system.

So true, but human fashion sense being what it is, the 240 is the flavor. 240 are more "charming", the 940 are the best Volvos ever! It is actually time to start thinking about bringing some 940 from Europe where they went til 1998 (need to be older than 25 years), and have some models with features unknown stateside. Unfortunately the rabble will prefer a new shiny Kia still.

I have a 740, but have noticed that the rear trailing arm bushings on the 240 seem to be a real bear to replace. I'd check the rear suspension if I were buying one.

OTOH, even if those 240 rear trailing arm bushings are shot, its hardly noticeable. a few extra creaks on a 30 year old car? meh.

and yes, on a 740/940, that bushing is much easier.
