Default Newbie volvo '87 240DL

New volvo owner here with a couple issues that I couldn't find answers for on the forum. I don't know enough about vehicles to determine if these are related issues. Fell in love with this car at first sight. My mechanic (honest knowledgable guy) is doing his best, but maybe I need to a volvo specialist? Here's the skinny...I appreciate any opinions/guidance. Would love to keep this car & hope it's just a bit of early owner maintenance to help her thrive.

History:
  • Car was garaged for past 2 years since original owner is now in his 90s. He had another classic car as well, so I'm guessing it was well maintained and not driven heavily.
  • Currently 151,000 miles. I'll probably add 7,000 miles in next 6M until I have a 2nd car.
  • I bought as-is from my mechanic, who had taken it in trade for work on the previous owner's son's car. He took it in for his teen daughter, tuned it up & replaced missing parts, then she balked at the sight of an old car. My teen son, however, loves it as much as me. She is a beaut

Issues:
  • "Overdrive off" light is lit every morning after starting in driveway, or would go on during morning rush hour or sometimes even road bumps. Turning the car off/on or pressing the O/D button on automatic shift wouldn't reset. In addition, I heard a buzzing noise in the dash. Noise happened when light on, and I could press O/D btn to turn buzz off but light stayed on. I assumed loose wire & took it to mechanic along with the next issue listed. (A/C). He ended up removing the O/D btn, but light is still coming on intermittently. He's ordered a replacement btn to install next week. Hope I'm not hurting the car driving with this on in the meantime. I don't drive much if the buzzing is happening, but having the "O/D Off" light on is disturbing and I need to get back & forth to work.
  • A/C wasn't working after sitting so long. Mechanic tried one solution, but then needed to put in a converter to 134A. A/C worked fine for the day, but then coolant started leaking pools of green fluid in my driveway that same night.
  • Coolant is now way below minimum after the A/C converter was installed 2 days ago. It's a holiday weekend, so not a good time to get ahold of a mechanic on a sunday or holiday. I need to get the car to a mechanic on Tuesday, but don't want to drive on zero coolant. Can I put in any modern coolant, or do I need to wait for regular volvo shop to open on Tuesday to get the "use only volvo type C coolant mixed 50/50 with water" before driving anywhere b/w 10-30 miles to closest mechanic?

Thanks for any advice! This car is worth the effort at this point

you can use basic green prestone kinda coolant. I use Zerex G05 in my volvos and other euro car (an older benz).

the buzz may be your overdrive relay. this is buried behind the dash somewhere, 240 relays had a tendancy to migrate aruond depending on the model year.
