No heat, winter coming, help.
 

I have a 1994 940 turbo wagon 165000 miles. Had the head gasket replaced last week(blown, coolant in oil) along with changing plugs, plug wires, oil and new coolant. I tried the heat this morning( 52 degrees this am in Michigan) and got nothing but cold air. Fan works fine although I did notice that the fan for the radiator contiued to run after I shut the car down. This has never happen before and I am not sure it has anything to do with me not getting heat. I have yet to look into this- at work. Just questioning on where I might start? Temp gauge is reading correct, only drove 8 miles but car was sufficiently hot, so I should have had hot air. Winter is coming need to fix soon.

Well, I'd take it back to the shop that did the head gasket. When they pulled the head, they had to disconnect the heater core hoses from the rear of the cylinder head. One hose goes to a firewall heater valve. The most obvious cause is they either broke it, failed to reconnect it properly or some such. Also, possibly the heater slide control's cable has been disconnected or broken inside the dash.

Sounds to me like you may have an AIR POCKET in the system preventing circulation and proper cooling even though the gauge reads OK.

The fact that your fan kept running after the car shut down indicates that the motor was pretty hot. This would explain the lack of heat as coolant is not circulating through the heater core.

Take care of this ASAP or you may need another head gasket or worse!

Yes, lack of heat sure sounds like air pockets in the coolant lines somewhere. Where is the coolant level at? The system needs to be burped and refilled a few times to completely fill the system.

It's a poor shop that wouldn't burp the system. Still, I suppose it happens. Idle the car from cold with the reservoir cap off and be certain to have the heater slid to max hot. Stay with it to make certain you do not overheat. Remember, a temp sensor won't read squat if it isn't in coolant so your temp readings can be wrong.
