occasional stall/studder
1990 240 DL
Recently I've been having periodic moments of engine studder/hesitation when trying to accellerate (sorta feels like its being flooded). Most of the time If I shut the car off for 5-10 minutes the problem goes away. 98% of the time the car runs beautifully. Not a single issue. Any Ideas ??
p.s. plugs, wires, cap/rotor replaced 45 days ago.

No engine light or any other indicator light. It is running rich.
I would see the LH2.4 section here for checking for trouble codes:

I just cleaned the fuse terminals and replaced oxidized fuses.
#4 (8amp - primary fuel pump, heating element, lambda-sond) was a bit oxidized (white coated).
Took the car for a spin no problems. I haven't fully road tested it yet.
Few other questions...
Q1) Is the Check Engine lamp supposed to display on startup?
Q2) Does the 240 DL have 2 O2 sensors?

There may be codes present regardless if the check engine light is on, I'm not sure about the startup behavior.
There is only one O2 sensor. It's output, the large green wire, should swing quickly from .2VDC and .8VDC (and back) during idle ... with everything connected.

Currently DTC is showing 212 and 311. Im not sure if these are old. Previous owner said he replaced the O2 Sensor prior to me purchasing. I attempted to clear the codes so as to get fresh data (not knowing if he cleared or not). I followed the instructions found in the Haynes 240 series manual (97020), but to no avail.
My overall concern at this point is if the previous owner actually did the work/repairs, or simply disabled the "Check Engine" lamp. If the codes are new the check engine lamp should be lit at least for the 212.

I am having the same freakin problem...when I put it in reverse, sometimes it just dies on me...and I hear a loud hiss when I start the car in the morning...I have a wagon 86 240...I remember kicking the fuse panel a couple of days ago...I'll check for fuse 4...
Sounds like a bad vacuum leak.
vacuum leak? The FPR has a little hose going to the intake manifold...that tends to come off once in a while...it does not have a hose clamp on it...
thanks, but what about the loud hissing noise when I start it in the morning by the fuel pump?

A snake? cat? not sure

I thought you were refering to a hissing noise inside the cabin, like a vacuum leak with the climate controls ...
Are you sure it's in the fuel pump area? The only thing I can think of there is a fuel leak or a failed evaporative emissions canister. In some cases the hose to the canister can come off around the fuel tank and, combined with a bad valve in the canister, can cause a constant vacuum leak underneath the car.
yes, from the pump area...every morning when I start the car it will "spool up" or sounds like the pump needs to shoot a lot of "initial gas" making a hissing noise then a couple of seconds later it will stop...the car is kind of lagging...I drive 70 miles a day, even though it is a lot I feel that it is using too much gas...
