Ohm value of a '92 940 Crankshaft Position Sensor

I'm the lucky one who's car wouldn't start after changing the water pump...my luck! Anyhow, I am starting to troubleshoot the cause and an easy check was the Crankshaft Position Sensor. My Chilton's Book says the ohmic value should be between 200 and 500 ohms. Mine reads 176 ohms. I did a search on the internet and someone stated that they read 160 ohms on their new sensor...is 176 good or bad? I don't want to just start changing a bunch of parts!

Any other suggestions are more than welcome...a 1 & 1/2 hours water pump job turning into a PITA!

Thanks to all that respond ahead of time! Charlie

I believe its an inductive sensor (a coil that detects magnetic fluctations), so I wouldn't pay too much attention to the specific value of DC resistance. if one source says 200-500 ohms, and another says 160 ohms, I'd say 176 ohms is right in hte ballpark. if it was a dead short, or open, THEN I'd be concerned :)

Thanks Pierce...I must be overlooking something simple...any thoughts please pass along...Drove the car in the garage with a leaking water pump...change it and no start...

have you tested to see if you have spark when you're cranking it ? I've used a timing light for this, hook it up to the #1 spark plug wire, bring it back to the drivers seat, hold the trigger on the timing light, and turn the key to start. if the light goes flash-flash-flash-flash you have spark.

if you DO have a spark, then its likely a fuel problem. I think I'd verify the fuel pumps are running (they are on for 1-2 seconds when you first turn on the key, then they should come on again when you crank the engine, and go out about a second after the engine stops turning over.

I just found a broken ground wire. it is bolted to the drivers side of the engine under the intake manifold about 6 inches up from where the block and oil pan meet midway in the block (from front to rear). There is a tag on it with the number/letters (nor sure of the first, but it looks like a J) J3523397 C02. If you know where the other end of this wire goes to please let me know! It went around the driver side engine mount. So, I'm going out to jack up the car and pull the shields off to see if I can find the other end...can't see it from the top. I think this may be the ground for the control module...I don't have a good print.
