Oil leaking out of filler and dipstick....HELP!

Ok guys, i have an '85 740 turbo...well recently i noticed that at high revs that when i usually drive on the freeway, my dipstick sorta shoots out and oil shoots everywhere and now i noticed that its coming out of the oil fill cap now and pretty good....ive been told it can be a pcv valve or flametrap being clogged so it can breath and not do that or just blow by thru the rings and such...either way, it has some miles on it, 253,000 to be exact...but i would like to try and make the problem a lil better than it is, if possible cause it is an old car and all......any ideas would help a lot to improve...thank you!

This isn't the exact diagram for your car but at least gives you a place to look - the flame trap is contained within #6, I would start by replacing it. It's possible the oil separator is also plugged.

X2 It seems that your engine has excessive crankcase pressure causing your oil to leak.

thanks..ill check that out tomorrow to see whats going on with that.....hopefully it is something that is a simple fix because its a really great running car for the year and mileage...passes emissions every year with flying colors...unlike some of my friends cars and family....new or newer cars always breaking down and all that garbage.....ill stick with my Volvo ;) Thanks for the help.

Fix it quick, excessive crankcase oil pressure could blow out your real main oil seal if it hasn't done so already. It is recommended that you clean the flame trap once a year even though I don't do it that often.

My understanding is that turbos don't have flame traps..

But they do have the little PCV breather where the flame trap would be. From what I understand its the same thing without the little filter. They do still get clogged, mine was pretty nasty looking and brittle when I replaced it.

Ecessive oil pressure

I have a 2001 volvo v40 that was pushing the dipstick up and blowing oil. Turned out to be a clogged oil separator. Oil trap whatever u wanna call it. They do clog very quickly. I would suggest cleaning it once a year.
