Oil light never turns on

My 1979 242 has about 150,000 miles on it and runs fairly well (when warm). But there are two things that concern me. #1. The oil light never comes on when you turn the key to the on position when the engine isn't running. This leads me to believe that it doesn't work which is a possible issue if it ever blew a seal and ran out of oil. The second problem is that the brake warning light is constantly on. I checked for leaks but found none and the pedal is nice and firm. So is this something to worry about or is it probably just a false light? One more thing, does anybody know where you can get the little pins that hold the door panels to the door, most of mine are broken off.

The oil light problem could be a bad or non-existent connection at the oil pressure sensor, a blown bulbor the oil pressure sensor not working.

First I would check that the lead is attached to the sensor which is located near the oil filter. Then the bulb and if they check out OK replace the sensor.

Which brake warning light is on?

The pins should still be available from dealers but you could also try: http://www.erievovo.com/. I have no first hand experience with them as I live just a little too far away but it is said that they are slow answering emails but fast at answering the telephone.

most likely a burned out bulb, i agree with billoduram.

There's a pressure switch on the brake junction box. All the brake lines go into the brake junction box. Mine just failed and caused the brake warning light to stay on, although the pressure was good. FCP Groton has the switch for $12 or the box including the switch for $99.

Thanks, I'll check the connections at the switch and if they're good I'll probably try to check the bulb. This isn't on the same topic but I heard that the b21 engines would sometimes break off oil pumps because the bolts are weak. I'm not sure if this is true because i've only heard this from one source and know volvored blockengines are pretty bullet-proof.
