Oxygen Sensor damaged from shipment?

I ordered 2 rear coil springs and an Oxygen Sensor for my Volvo 240. The package came in a veritacal box(the shape of the springs) with the Oxygen Sensor at the end. The Oxygen sensor box was smashed due to the end of the springs hitting and it being on the end of the box therefore hitting the ground when ever that box was stood on it's side during shipping. I haven't installed the oxygen sensor yet(will do it on my day off this weekend), but now I am worried about if there is any damage due to the wieght of the springs hitting it. The oxygen sensor itself seems ok(no dents) but what about the internal electronic parts? For a $150 I want to make sure it is in good condition and I am upset. Ughh.... Is there a chance it will not work in the manner it supposed to?

It may work, but the question is, for how long. If the box the O2 sensor was in is damaged, then I would see about getting a new one. Why go through the trouble of swapping the O2 sensor just to have it break a month down the road.

If the box the sensor was in is fine, then the sensor is probably fine too.

I'd say, if it looks ok, it probably is. Not that much to an o2 sensor.

On page 241-22 of the Bentley manual: "Handle the oxygen sensor with care. Striking or dropping the sensor will damage it."

Ok, here's the story. I called web site(which I won't say) and talked to a guy. I told him that the sensor was not packed correctly and the coils smashed the box and the sensor itself took impact from the coils(and the surface of the outside the box whenever the box was on it's side) continuously during shipping. I told him I need it by Friday(today). He said that he would split the overnight shipping with me. I don't think this is right since it is not my fault that this was packaged like this. But I agreed to pay half anyways. Well, I got the sensor today. It was packaged properly this time. BUT....when I take out the oxygen sensor the box is even more damaged than the other one! There was a big hole in the box(and it was smashed up in other areas)! There's no way this could of happened during shipping(it was surrounded by about 3-4 inches of paper. And there was no damage to the shipping box), I think the guy did it just to be malicious. I can't believe this happened to me and I was treated this way. I have to work on my car at my step dad's house because I don't have any tools. His house is 3 towns over from where i live. Tommorow's my birthday and I was to go over there and use his tools to fix up my car. I was really excited to how my car was going to run with a new oxygen sensor. Now I'm gonig to have to wait 2 weeks before I can have the days off to go over there to install a proper one. I can't use this one. No way, especially for $150.00. I'm so upset. I wish I could of known this in advance.

The first time I recieved the Oxygen Sensor:

You mean you didn't order from FCP Groton?? Tech support, right price, well packed, satisfaction guaranteed. At least that's been my experience.

OK just me personally ... but being in your situation I would inspect the replacement closely and take a chance because it could be just a problem with the box. No matter what you do, good luck.
