quick turbo conversion advice needed!
Hi all,
After months and months of deliberating, I've decided to +T the 240 wagon. Found what seems like a pretty good deal on some turbo parts from a guy locally. Here are the parts: Distributor (Bosch Style) Ignition computer & components (Bosch EZK) Turbo & Manifold Oil drain and feed piping Intake piping & Intercooler PCV piping Radiator Hoses Can get it for $200. good price or should I keep looking? Seems like I would pay about 100 for the turbo and intercooler from local junkyard (which was my original plan). Never done turbo conversion, seems like a good price. Advise please!!!!!!! |
Come on, no takers?!
Good deal or not? That's all I'm asking of ya'll. Hold out for donor or just get this stuff and make it work (I'm sure I'll have to buy other parts along the way...) BTW the plan is to keep lh 2.2... |
I can't tell you whether it is a good price or not. If it were me I would take a turbo engine out of a junkyard car and take all those parts plus the ECU. Turbo engines have dished pistons and special valves. You'll need to replace those parts in you engine.
You should post your question on turbobricks as they have much more expertise in modifying these engines. |
It is a good deal. However you decide to get the parts you'd have to pay and per piece it would be a lot more. As a package, this is OK, just make sure they are all in good shape which is hard to do with used parts. Trust the seller?

you'll need a higher volume fuel pump or under heavy boost at higher RPMs you'll run into fuel starvation. you'll need higher flow injectors, or ditto.
you'll need a turbo downpipe in addition to the exhaust manifold. volvo turbos swap the airbox and battery location as the airbox goes into the turbo on the exhaust side, then the boosted air goes through the intercooler, and plumbs over to the throttle body. the ignition side of things is identical between turbo and non-turbo. |
If you haven't already take a look at the engine bay of a turbo and compare it to your engine. You will see the tip of the iceberg as there are other mechanical and electrical parts you would need to get . Also see if you can find out the miles on the turbo as they have a limited life . Good luck , big job
