Default Random Question Involving Volvo Wagons...

I'v always wondered what that little vent on the rear, right side of the older Volvo Wagons does. There's the part you see on the outside, and the inside. I just kinda wondered is they served a purpose... or are there for aesthetic purposes. I looked for it in the Bentley Repair manual I have to find nothing...
Anything about the random vent would be appreciated.
Thanks, Evan.

volvos always had flow through ventilation in their cars. on the sedans, the cabin air is sucked out at the bottom of the rear window, on the wagons, they are on the side. on the 700/900 cars they did a better job of hiding it

i was just looking at my '92 745T and I'm not sure WHERE they hid the vent, hah. I think it must be in the plastic above the inside of the door, and it exhausts to the space above the rear door seal between the hinges. that and/or through the vents on floor cover plate, and out the spare tire compartment somewhere.

Wow... I think the vents look neat... I wonder why they want to hide them now?

740/940 wagon vents are under the rear side stash covers, on the inner fender wall.
These help the car vent the air pressure when closing the doors.

Yeah, never seemed to help with the 240's, at least the wagons. The last door to be closed always needs and extra push to close. If a window is cracked, it closes fine. Also wished the vents helped with air flow so you don't have to use the fan when driving fast. Cracking a window always helped for that too.

on the 7/900s, the fan is silent in position 1 and very quiet in 2. the 240 fan is embarrassing.
