Regina fuel system issue on1994 940

I have a 94 Volvo Regina 940 wagon the gas had been running really low in the car warning light on but not empty. I was pull over and turned the car off and after that it just wouldn't start for the longest time.

its a Regina system I've heard that they can be very underpowered obviously I'll replace the fuel filter and see if its something simple like that if it got clogged from the crap in the bottom of the tank but it seems more that it just works or doesn't. I had troubl withe it cutingt out while driving, not stopped, and it just stopped running, no rough running, just off.

I pull over, the AAA guy opened up the rail on the motor hit the little Schrader valve and fuel did come out and then worked right after that, but now there's no fuel coming out of that valve, 2 of the relays in the fuse box on touch were almost hot, but just warm, so I'm not sure if the pump got clogged because of that crap in the bottom, then the relays got hot from overworking?

I think I'm just going to go on the ground up but it seems like these Regina systems have lots of problems and I was wondering if there's also way to maybe get this thing running a little better pressure, higher fuel pressure? I've seen other pumps used.

I'm going to start with the filter anyway and then the pump obviously and difficulty of replacement for her any comments or ideas would be appreciated. Just seems weird. I'd think if the filter went, then it wouldn't run at all....

Try a new fuel pump. It would cut out, stall, not start, etc, but after replacement worked fine. Aftermarket units are louder than the original.

No need to get the full sending unit, but you might have to to get just the pump.

I have a '94 940 with Regina. I have very few problems with mine at 225,000 miles in upstate NY rust belt. Most consistent issue is moisture in distributor cap.

I've heard you can use a Volvo 850 bosch pump to replace the regina pump, cheaper and better made. bosch also used these on non-turbo 1995 940's (and maybe 1994?)

1994 940 regina fuel system

Relays and pump go hand in hand - problems from one will and do cause problems with other.
If you purchase from one of the 'biggies' go online and get all the discounts possible. Talk to reps on the '800' line - they will also give the most discounts.

Make sure you replace single throw double pole with same -
this is very important - 5 prong double pole and single pole look the same - a 'J' relay needs to be replaced with 'J' relay, - G and the $20+ and so on relay.
There is an after market single pole that works - use in right spot.

I'm glad aftermarket pumps are louder - like to hear it kick in before starting. Don't forget the strainer -warranty required - xtra $10+.

regina pumps are in the fuel tank only, and as long as there's at least 1/3rd tank of gas, almost inaudible.

on a 1994 regina car, the fuel pump relay is in position "M", *NOT* the same as the bosch fuel injection+pump double relay in position "E". On a 1994 Regina, at least, the ECU and rest of the fuel injection system is powered by a relay under the hood near the right headlight, known sometimes as the 'radio interference suppression' relay.

I would also avoid using cheap generic relays from mass market parts chains. The correct rated relays for these cars, typically Bosch, Stibel, or KAE brand, last for 20 years.
