relocating gauges: are they a standard size?

Hi all,
My son's '83 245 GL wagon has the full set of gauges in it, and the original radio in the lower position (which we hate). I'd thought of relocating 3 of the gauges to a dash-mounted gauge pod, thus clearing space in the upper slot for a new CD receiver.
Are the gauges a standard size that should fit in aftermarket gauge pods? Do they come out of the car as a cluster of 3? Can they then be broken apart and put into an aftermarket guage pod?
