Default Removing CAT and Replacing Fan

Hi, I have a 1980 242 GT and I was wondering if I could get some input on some modifications I'm planning on making.

I want to remove the catalytic converter, where I am because of the age of my vehicle i no longer have to pass emission tests and I was hoping to get a little bit extra power by removing it. Are there any negatives to doing this? The other thing I was hoping to do was replace my mechanical fan with an electric one, same question, is there anything bad about going through with this?

Thanks for all your help!

Justin

PS here is the guide I would be following for the electric fan,
K-Jet.org | Electric Fan Installation

I would probably get an auto shop to remove the cat for me.

The down side is that you will be polluting more, but by now that cat is probably pretty ineffective anyway.

The electric fan is a good way to go as long as it installed right.

unless your cat is clogged, removing it likely will NOT give you any more power.

I got a 79 242 and the cat's guts are completely gone...I got a new one (California) but if it is like mine with flanges and three bolts on either side take a look at it and see the honeycomb inside and if it is gone you got same as straight pipe.

Instead of the electric fan why don't you buy a monsoon fan clutch...more cooling and no hassle of wires

I don't think my cat is clogged, I won't know for sure until I check, but if the power gain is negligible I might not bother getting rid of it. I do have my eye on the sport exhaust on IPD though

Also, analogies, how does the Monsoon Flan Clutch differ from the stock fan clutch? Does it provide more or less airflow? One of the issues I have with the mechanical fan is the loud, loud noise!

unless you're making a bunch of more HP increasing changes, like bore and/or stroke, high lift cam, beefier injection system, etc etc, there's little point in opening up the exhaust, it flows plenty freely for the stock engine.

Tropical fan clutch....Not Monsoon....MY BAD...I WAS IN THE SAME VICINITY THOUGH

Well, the Tropical(NOT MONSOON) fan clutch does rev faster and probably makes more noise...
I think the noise is your concern....then the monsoon fan clutch won't be for you...I suggested it thinking you wanted better cooling.

But you might want to look at the Tropical(NOT MONSOON)
