Default Replacing Motor Mounts on 240

1986 240 DL Wagon

So the right hand motor mount has collapsed causing the exhaust pipe to ride beneath the bottom of the car. If I take off both mount bolts, can I then raise the engine up about six inches without damaging anything? Do I need to release the bracket on the drive shaft?
Thanks

what you need to do is loosen the top and bottom nut on the rubber mount

then loosen the 3 bolts on the underside of the Lowe half of the mount, you will need an extension for this

once those are removed you can lift the engine, you should only need about 3 inches or so max

You have to unbolt the bottom brackets and jack it up with a piece of wood under the pan. Then throw in new mounts. IIRC the drivers side requires taking off the top bracket as well. I ended up having to carefully use a crowbar to get the engine lined up as my mounts were totally wrecked and the trans was hitting the tunnel.

you really should replace the transmission mount, too, as its the 3rd motor mount.

That's good. I happen to have the bearing sitting in the glove box. No cautions from you about jacking the engine up so guessing it's ok.

Thanks. My right mount is collapsed and the whole tailpipe is hanging down.
