Replacing tranny mount, where to jack?
 

Hey everyone,

I need to change my transmission mount and was hoping someone could tell me where to jack the tranny when I do this. I'm going to back the vehicle onto ramps when I do this as well so does it matter that the rear of the vehicle will be lifted as opposed to the front? Also, will this affect where I need to jack the transmission? Thanks.

Thanks, that site is a great source of information. I actually went there before posting and it says I should jack on the transmission pan. That just doesn't sound right. A friend of mine suggested jacking it on the rear slip yoke. I have no idea what that is. Also, the front passenger factory jacking 'bolt' broke while I was jacking the vehicle recently so I'm unable to use jack stands on the front of the vehicle, hence getting the ramps. Thoughts, suggestions?

I think its OK to jack it up as talked about in the FAQ ... The Bentley shows the transmission supported by the four corners of the pan with a "special" tool.

When I changed the transmission mount on my 940, I backed it onto the ramps and jacked the transmission on the pan using a 2X4 between the jack and the pan.

Yep, just jack up on the pan with a nice chunk of wood across the width of the pan.
The rear (trans) mount doesn't have that much weight on it, maybe 10-20% of total engine/trans weight, the rear mount really only stabilises the engine/trans package side to side and up and down, it's not really a huge load carrying part.

Thanks for this link. My 96 940 with only 121K just started to be sluggish shifting into a higher gear last week with the cold. Will look around here in in Pittsburgh who can do a power flush for me.
