Shock and Strut Replacement
Looking to replace shocks and struts on a ‘79 245. Has anyone had experience with these from Swedish Car Parts?
What other more economically/budget friendly choices have you made? Thanks everyone? https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/volvofo...8967b2c881.png |
I can't tell what the brand it, but most parts from SCP tend to be good. I would suggest a gas-filled shock, I use KYB and am very satisified.

Thanks for the info. These are nitrogen filled and made in Estonia.

Estonia? Looks like knock-off Bilsteins.

seller description:
“These are NITROGEN gas charged units. Valving system design is modified from Swedish KONI shock design. $43 each. Enter Quantity 2 for the set.” I found another forum where someone has had them on for a year and seems pleased. Set of struts and shocks for about $130. I also found a set of KYB for $155. They definitely copied the Bilstien look. thanks for your response. |
I'd be cautious with non-name brand struts/shocks and from unknown/poorly rated sellers. Stick with the better brands like Sach/Boge (OEM), Bilstein (their B4 "touring is designed as an OEM replacement, the B6 is their HD and the B8 is HD for use with lowering springs), Koni's are great but pricey and finally KYB is a budget alternative gas shock. Plenty of Volvo friendly sellers carry these brands.

The yellow set comes from Swedish Car Parts. It seems like my best option is the KYB EXCELL for the price. Planning on using the wagon for flowers at the Farmers Market and short drives around town with no super heavy loads. Thanks for the input everyone!

I installed KYB low pressure strut inserts in the front and KYB Gas-a-Just in the rear of a 87 wagon DL.
No spacer needed in the front. Both strut inserts and rear shocks were perfect fit. I really like the ride quality. Not too firm. FYI, the original front struts were "green" color and stamped made in Japan. Side by side, the appearance and dimensions compared almost exact to the KYB strut insert. |
Which are the low pressure KYB struts you used? Thanks

Sorry about delayed reply, as I just read your message. I installed the KYB GR-2 strut inserts in the front. They were identical in every aspect when compared to the Green colored Volvo-stamped original struts that were Made in Japan. Below pic shows black KYB GR-2 versus original strut.
