Slow leak at rear of tranmission pan

Replaced the pan gasket and still a small leak that appears at the lip of the transmission. Does not seem like its the gasket. What is most common failure on these ? Could the speed sensor need a new O-ring or something else ? The cooler lines look OK. The rear seal dos not look like leaking at all and the gasket at the rear of the housing looks all dry... I am a little baffled. Maybe someone here has had this problem too ?

I'm interested in hearing if you had your transmission looked at. I just picked up an 88 240 wagon. Rear side of transmission pan was damp but not dripping. However now I'm noticing a few drops of transmission fluid. about a teaspoon over a few hours. Car has 239k.

Thanks.

sorry for the late reply...but I did get it looked at. First replaced the pan gasket and filter. Still leaked! The reapir shop watched it over night and tested while on the lift. They end up tighting the shifter bolt? Ot some part that has a seal. They said if it did not last the valve body needed to be dropped and replace the seal. So far I've been lucky. Hope you made out OK.

Thanks for the follow-up. I was out of town so the car sat in the garage for a week. Came back and there was quite a bit of transmission fluid under car. Bringing it in tomorrow to have them take a look at it. Seems if it is driven for a while, it can sit over night with no leakage. If I drive it a short distance - or in the instance of last week - it just sits - it leaks quite a bit. Will let you know what i find out.
thanks.

I brought my 240 DL to a Volvo Repair shop. They looked and one of the Selector Shaft seals was leaking and a slight leak on the rear cooler line fitting (o-ring). The other Selector Shaft seal looked a little damp. Total of 12 bucks in parts to replace all 3 items - also had them do a full flush on the transmission fluid as it was pretty nasty. Glad its dry under the car now and nothing major.
