Stubborn Exhaust
Hey guys,
I've had to replace my catalytic converter on my 92' 940 GL and the clamp to the headers was no problem but unfortunately after removing the clamp on my catty to the rest of the exhaust (towards the muffler) my catty refuses to budge. What do you guys think: A ball peen hammer and a small blowtorch? Please let me know, I need to slap a sticker on this guy soon. Thanks, - John |
At the shop, we use an acetylene torch with a soft flame, too cool to cut or weld but will expand the collar enough to pull it loose. So, you're on the right track.

You call it a "catty"? Sounds funny, in the West we call it a "cat"...

Oh yeah. You could spray the seam down w/ PB Blaster or other penetrant and cook it in w/ your torch. It will come loose...just takes a little longer.

OK, I'll head to the nearest hardware store and grab a butane torch and cook it. How hot do you suggest I get the pipe, red hot? Should I let it cool before I start yanking on it? Thanks.
