Default Tallest tire size for 15" virgo rims

The standard size tire for virgo rims are 195 60 15. I've been told 205 60 15 will work, but is that the maximum I can go?

What tire size will give me the TALLEST ride height, and still stay on the rim? (They are 15x6 btw)

I have ipd overload springs in the back, so there is a little more clearance in the back now.

Thanks.

You are asking the question the wrong way. Any 15" tire will fit on your rim (as long as it is not too wide), but will it fit in the wheel opening is the question. Maybe another member can help you with that, but knowing what year and model Volvo you have would be helpful!

the overload springs don't actually lift the tail up much, as they are a bit shorter than the stock springs, but stiffer.

anyways, you have to size the tire so it won't scrape anything when the suspension is fully compressed, like going over a bump with a heavy load. this height will be the same regardless of what spring you use.

Do we assume you realize that you will change your speedometer reading with different size tires . Larger diameter tires will read slower then actual speed and smaller diameter tires will read faster then speedometer. Just sayin

also, a taller diameter tire is effectively a higher gear ratio, so your car will be turning over a lower RPM at a given actual speed, and have less power applied to the road. since 240/740/940 are kind of down on the power curve to start with, this could be painful.

Just found out the answer: The tallest tire size that fits comfortably on virgo rims is 205/60/15
(In case anyone else was interested).

Apparently sometimes you get some pretty funny answers to simple questions when you ask something on an online forum.

Funny questions bring on funny answers. It's not the tire size that presents the questions , it's the logic behind it. To change the suspensions dynamics without understanding the function brings about the secondary questions. So the answer is , whatever size tire that will fit under the body . Go to a 65 or 70 series tire and you can get a larger tire that will fit on your rims without any trouble. Glad we could all help.

I have the Virgos too and do find this usefull understanding all the other implications (speedo, gearing, etc.) Thanks for the post. So to elaborate further... If 205/60/15 is the tallest, that means its diameter is: 205 x 60 = 123mm (sidewall height) x 2 + 381mm (15in rim) = 627mm total diameter. Other combinations of sidewall height that meet this total diameter (55 or 50 for example) could work too as long as the width clears as well.

So I guess the next question is, how wide can you go? Understanding the wheel offset on the Virgos might be different and that's a factor too.
