Temp Gauge Sensor sealing?

Hi all,

In cleaning up my cylinder head (details on why the gasket leaked coolant will be forthcoming in a day or so) I noticed evidence of leakage around the temperature gauge sensor (the one between cylinders 1 and 2).

This sensor had no sealing ring on it like the ECU temp sensor that lives between cylinders 3 and 4. Is it supposed to?

If not, how do you seal it...RTV on the upper threads? (I'm sure that some threads must be bare so that the sensor connects with the head.)

PS the date codes on the casting indicate that the transplanted motor in my '94 was built around 1990. It has really good top-end compression...I filled each combustion chamber with oil and didn't observe drainage on any!

I believe it just seals with the threads. Some of them have the conehead shape on the end that helps it seal.

Thanks Tech, BTW I am using my Mustang 5.0 for work while the Volvo is laid up.

Wish it held as much cargo as the Volvo. [>:]
