testing an idle motor

First, thanks to all who helped me locate the flame trap, which, had it been a snake.......[:@]

So, throttle body and idle motor cleaned, flame trap replaced. New plugs, cap and rotor. Runs like a champ at highway speeds. However, idle is still a problem. It's still very low, often killing the engine. After the test drive, idle was cycling, every 5 seconds or so, between low and too high. So, on a chance, I unplugged the connector from the idle motor.

It idles perfectly. So, am I doing any damage running with it disconnected? Is there any way to test an idle motor?

If it runs good with it unplugged then the throttle body might not be adjusted properly.

But until I sort out the problem, am I doing any damage by running it with the idle motor unplugged?
