To all my Volvo peeps that have responded to my questions and queries concerning my Volvo, Thank you. I will take all the help and advice that I can get. This is the first forum that I have participated in and so far it's been very rewarding, if not entertaining.

Good to hear from you.Tomorrow I have to install a thermostat as well as a new distributor cap and rotor I noticed the distributor cap was cracked when I was wrestling with a 10 mm nut that was stripped on the thermostat housing. What a pain in the ass. Anyways, I thought the old rotor would just lift out but it seems as I'm going to have to twist it and pull it out and I'm not sure how any tips?

Thats the best way i know! Try to do it when its warm though!!!! Comes off easier.... Osss

the crack may be the culprit to the low speed stalling issue..
rotor sometimes need to break them to remove. clean distributor shaft and install new rotor with dielectric grease..

silvermine thanks for the input. Are you saying that I should wiggle it and try to pull it up and if it doesn't come up keep wiggling and pulling with channel locks or something until it comes out? is there maybe a way that you push down and turn it and then it releases up or something like that? As always, all help greatly appreciated by this humble Junior member.

Just keep pulling up on it with whatever tool works best for you. There is no push down...rotate and release for the rotor. Just keep pulling up... It'll come off eventually.

As silvermine mentioned, put some dielectric grease on the new rotor to ease it's removal in the future.
