Thinking about buying a 940

Looking at buying a '94 940 from a small, Mennonite-owned, seemingly trustworthy dealership and full auto mechanic.

The only thing that's wrong on there is the leather seat listing, which it does not have.

I was wondering with the specifications (ie: mileage, etc) on that car as they are, what problems I might anticipate. According to the fellow I've been speaking with, this small business' repair costs are significantly lower than most dealerships, primarily within this series of Volvo because they have so many that they can pull parts from (read: $200-300 for a used transmission to be replaced, should the one in it fail, etc).

Any advice?

Looks nice. Price is right. But everything depends on the test drive. Listen for any noise. Should have good acceleration and drive in straight line, even when hitting brakes. Also, have some shop put it up on a lift and get underneath and look at suspension, steering, and exhaust system. Use a magnet to check for body filler (realize some parts of Volvo are plastic). Pull up mats on floor and trunk. Is it the same color underneath the mats? Put your nose down there and smell for mustiness, which indicates it was in a flood. Make sure there is no smoke coming from exhaust when going downhill, foot on gas, then off. When stopped in neutral or park, press on gas and let off while an assistant looks for smoke from exhaust. If some, valves are worn. A little smoke is fine. Too much means a rebuild is required in near future.

If there is any noise, figure out what it's from because that is future money spent.

Good luck!

Doesn't have "tilt" either. I thought mennonites didn't use machinery. But it looks good, and a good price for a 940 turbo with 123k miles.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU RUN THE VIN THROUGH CARFAX... I'm not sure what the forums rules are on giving advice on others deals but RUN A CARFAX FOR YOURSELF, I would not buy this car.
