Tire shop put the wrong wheels on/against the brake calibur
 

I went to the tire shop and bought new wheels...the rims and tires. When they were done, they gave me the keys to drive me 1990 240 Volvo DL to drive off the lift. When I put it in reverse the car wouldn't roll, so I thought it was the ramp. So I gave it more gas and more gas. Finally the car went backwards about a foot and I heard this big noise from the rear. So I got out and the tire guy looked and the rim offset(right name?) was to small and the inner part of the rim was hitting the metal balance bracket on the brake caliper. The tire shop apologized and ordered me rims with correct off set which will be in tomorrow. They cost more, but their not charging me the extra money so I am saving about $120.00.

But what I am worried about is the damage from going in reverse for about a foot with the rim against the brake caliber metal bracket. Could I have done any damage to the transmission or rear drive axel? Or any other damage?

Amazing. I would take the car directly to a real Volvo mech, explain the story, and ask him to have a look at the brakes.

The rims should be 5x108 with 20mm offset.

a visual inspection would also likely show any major damage.

They might have installed 5x108 with 40mm+ offset from a more modern Volvo...

I would not trust the tire shop who ordered wrong wheels, but then if they are putting it right, it should be okay. Just make sure that the brakes work before you drive off without any nasty leaks / broken lines, etc. I am suprised that they did not notice that the wheels won't turn before driving off the lift.

You would think that they would of at least checked clearance first.

As long as the offset was not too much and they did not bend anything, you should be OK.

actually, that is pretty close to exactly what they said.

the offset of the wrong wheels(mb sprite) were 15x6.55-115/108 38sm.

i am going to get the vox mg3 because that's the only one they carry with the correct off set for my car.

how would they look on a volvo 240 dl sedan? i would rather have something more classy with a spoke look, but they are giveing them to me for 72.00 a piece since they messed up w/ the other rims.

wow, those look pretty good. how do they hold up against pot holes? my biggest fear is one will get warped/bent and that style won't be around to replace it so I'll have to buy a new set.

also, i like a ride where it feels heavy and smooth. if the alloy rims are lighter than steel, will that negate what i am trying to do?
