towing with a 240 wagon

anyone know of some airsprings or airshocks I can use on a 89 240 wagon to give me a level ride when towing?

Nivomats from the 7/9 have been swapped over. Cheaper more reliable setup would be just about any airbag makers universal kit can be made to work in there. Toyota Previa rear springs are the same size but much stiffer and you can pair those with some heavy duty bilstein or koni shocks.

Does the '89 Volvo 240 have the power to tow? What are you towing? I'm assuming it's not a 20ft boat or anything.

Meh..I just so happen to have an 89 245, thank you very much. When it still had the original, 114 hp tractor motor I pulled a 3000 lb trailer from Dallas TX to Minneapolis, MN. Absolutely no issues whatsoever and at 70mph too. And...that was w/ the AW70 automatic. Granted overdrive was pretty much out of the question but that's no issue. The real issue I see is wondering just how much tongue weight your trailer has that the rear end would sag? I can't see a 200lb tongue weight making an appreciable difference in ride height. Perhaps your original rear springs are simply worn out. Just my 2 cents but I'm not a big fan of air shocks. Typically they use a wimpy spring and then you adjust them accordingly. My concern is after a few years the air bag leaks and then you're riding around w/ the tail dragging. For less money, and no maintanence...I'd go with HD wagon springs. fcpgroton.com has them at a reasonable price.

Yeah, you're running too much tongue weight if it's sagging. I have a 2400# travel trailer and tow it at 70 (gotta have trailer brakes). Everyone is still in my way, and I've got a '92 stock 240.

I'm running stock springs with, I think, Bilstein HD shocks from IPD. No sagging.
