Where do I find a 240?
 

Hi there! New to the forum... I'm 17 from Canada and I'm looking for a cheap, manual transmission 240 (242 or 242 sedan) in reasonable condition to work on with my dad before I go off to school. I'm willing to travel anywhere within a 700-mile radius of Toronto. If anyone knows of one for sale for under $2000, shoot me a text at 2894006535 or email me at benspence55@gmail.com. sadly, at this point, a cheap 240 has likely been very neglected, and will be a giant money pit to turn back into a reliable car, a clean well maintained one is no longer a $1000 car.

242 coupes are pretty rare nowdays, they were only made in the earliest years, the sedans were 244, and later just 240, wagons were 245 until they werre jsut 240. you want to avoid any volvo from 83-early 87 as they have bad wiring harnesses, and cars older than that are K-Jet 'continuous injection', for which its hard to find even basic parts for, and hardly noone remembers how to repair them. Ideal are 89-93 (last year sold), these are LH 2.4 electronic injection, which is pretty simple and robust.

Automatics outnumber manuals 5:1 or more here in the USA, I dunno about Canada.

Do a nationwide Craiglist search. Still, hard to find manual 240, much less cheap ones in decent shape....

there is one guy selling one currently by me. it’s an automatic 93? 244. and all that’s wrong with it is fuel relay switch I think. from you I’m roughly 650 miles tho. don’t know if you’re interested or not but the guy is selling it for like less than $250
