Default '95 960 A/C Clutch replacement

A/C on my 960 is blowing fuses. It doesn't appear to be the wiring since the resistance for the wire to ground is over 10,000 ohms and for the clutch is about 10-15 ohms which seems low for the magnet coil in the clutch. Blows a 15 amp (factory spec) fuse instantly and a 20 amp fuse after about 10 minutes of running. Assuming it is the clutch which is shorted, any hints on changing the clutch only. Hate to spend big bucks on an old car, but would like AC to work. Can clutch be changed without removing compressor? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I think so, but I can be wrong. Search here. Just curious -- if you had to replace the compressor, why would that be big bucks?
