Control Arm bushing help
Hello,
I have a 97 960. I have a bad lower control arm bushing on the front passenger side. I was wondering how difficult this is to change out. This is the arm that connects to the lower ball joint and the control arm bushing. Don't know if they refer to this as the front or rear bushing in the front suspension. I would assume it's the front one. A step by step picture tutorial would be wonderful. That might be to much to ask for, but, if anyone has one, it would be in this forum. Thanks, John |
Order new bushings for both sides (left and right) and do them at the same time. There are 2 bushings in the control arm. I took my control arms off, took them (and the bushings) to a local place and paid them a nominal fee to press them into my arms for me.

Thanks, Kendogg
How hard is it to remove the control arms? Any special tools needed? |
Nope, they just bolt in :)
|
Thanks, Can you suggest a good place to buy them?

I think I got mine from Pelican Parts? www.pelicanparts.com Others seem to have had good luck with FCPGroton as well. Pelican's a vendor on Bimmerforums, a forum I frequent a good bit more than here, and I've spent a fairly large amount of money with them over the years. Good, fast, and if you need something, they're on top of it asap.

Thanks, I'll be checking them out

I just ordered a set of these for my 940 from IPD. Hoping to have them this week and install before my fiancee has to go back to work after Feb vacation. Can any shop do this or are there special Volvo tools needed to install the bushings on the arms?
|
Get the replacement arms. The arms are only good for about one repress if they are not already wallowed from being loose. Replacing the arms is a super short, easy job involving standard hand tools. The re-press is a serious pain without good pressing equipment.
|
The bushings are pretty cheap. I wonder how much the arms would be? And do they come with the bushings in them? That would be great. Might be worth of look, if that's the case.
|
Bushings were cheap, but I didn't replace the arm. I guess I don't understand the need for a press? did I do something wrong?
