Default Dead Radio

I have an after-market JVC cd/mp3 deck in my car, it has given me no trouble until yesterday. I was running errands, and when I got in my car to head home I had no more sound. The unit was still on, but I had no sound coming out of the speakers, regardless of whether I had it on CD, Radio or Mp3. When I turn it off and then back on again I get a little "pop" from the speakers. I've checked all audio related fuses, and all look good. Since the unit gets power and still "works" I really don't know where else to look. Does a 93 960 have an amp?? Could it potentially be causing this no sound problem??

I believe that a 93 900 is similiar to a 700, if so, it will have an amp. It is located (driver side)in the dash next to the steering column, it is a small black box about 5inches long. Just remove the knee guard and look upto see it. You can also check the speaker wires.

I read around on the forum, and tore apart my lower dash to search for the supposed amp. I tried tracing the din wire, and it just goes into a larger mass of wires and disappears to an area I couldn't see above the steering column. From what I'd gathered the amp was either going to be right behind the center stack or near the wheel. I looked in both areas and didn't see anything obvious. I thought maybe it was some sort of weird internal issue with the deck, so I went out and bought a new deck to test. Again I got no sound. I proceeded to plug the "broken deck" back in, and suddenly there was a small speaker pop and everything started working like nothing had ever happened. I drove around and bit, turned the car on and off a few times, and everything seems to work fine. Strange!!

haha, unit has been returned, and I'm keeping the fingers crossed. Going to be putting somewhere around 1,000 miles on the car in the next few weeks, and the stereo is a must!

The amp is behind the centre of the dash. The easy way to find it is to trace the Din to Din lead from the head unit.

Hope this wiring diagram is helpful:

Try this.

I again looked under the dash and did not find anything, except the transmission computer, which I unplugged only to find that a bunch of codes were thrown when I started the car (oops) after plugging it back in and clearing the codes, I traced wires for a while and am convinced there is no amp under there. Later in the day I took the car to a stereo shop where the technician checked all the wires and tested all the speakers. (he also could not locate an amp) After he fixed a few loose wires and made sure everything was tight, he hooked the unit back up and it worked. I then started the car to drive off and go figure, it didn't work. Tech came out and looked things over again, and said that something must be going on with my deck. This seems reasonable, except I had bought the new deck earlier in the week and it produced the same symptoms. I'm kind of at a loss. is there something else that could be getting over-looked??

It might be the deck. How old is it. You said that the tech fixed some wires, so that might havee been the problem. Go get a new unit and try it. If it happens with the new deck then itis something else that was missed.

got a new deck, plugged it in, and I am still getting the same symptoms. So I called a stereo shop, and it's going in today. Hopefully they will be able to find the culprit.

the stereo shop made it work for about 6 hrs, then it decided to die again. Just by chance I knocked my driver rear door and everything started working again. Upon taking off the speaker panel and removing the speaker I discovered that the ground wire had been pinched and was grounding out on the door, which was shutting everything down. Put some electrical tape on it, and 280 miles later (including 60 of dirt road) and it has not given me any trouble. Funny how such a small thing can cause a problem like this.

Yeah. Well you shouldn't have anymore problems, unless your radio decides to stop working like my old one did.
