Dome light

On tomorrow's list is the seat again (see that thread), plus my goal is to figure out why my dome light has a bad connection. I can't seem to remove it easily as there are wires that connect it. What do I need to pull without breaking it? See my video I posted a while back on YouTube:

It's held by 4 plastic clips, 2 ea side. They may break but rarely do. Just pull it down gently.
You do seem to have a bad connection for the dome light, also you door plungers are stcking, they are prone to do that a lot...

I didn't think about the door buttons contributing to the weirdness. Can you pull off the boots and give them a spray with something?

Also, as you can see from later in the video, I can get the cover off and the clips holding it in aren't a problem, but I can't see how to remove the clip and the "tube." Do I just pull?

The buttons get stale with time, you can try some elctrical spray, may be file the contacts...
Yes, if I understand you correctly, the TUBE is the bulb? The CLIP, yes, can be tight.

Inside of dome light, with arrows pointing to white plastic that I am calling a "tube."

See the picture as far as what I mean when I refer to a "tube" in the video. To me, that doesn't look like a wire. It's white semi-rigid translucent white plastic that attaches to the cover just to the side where the plug socket is. It's almost like a plastic vacuum tube.

I see now. This is the temperature sensor for the climate control. It clips onto the dome light, that green tab I believe is the one you press to unclip.

Pulled it all down yesterday afternoon. Problem seems to be with the switches which are underneath the yellow circuit board (see post #5 on this thread). Even after removing the whole dome light assembly from the car, I wasn't able to get figure out how to best get to the switches. The board has what appears to be wire hinges, but I cannot swing it open since the black socket seen in the picture where the green plug goes in blocks the yellow board from swinging open (labled "4970"). It appears that it is a plug as well and should just unhook, but it is held in with two tiny clips, which I was able to pry back slightly, but still I was not able to pull the black. I am afraid at this point I may make things worse by trying to pry it apart.

OK, solved this by replacing it with one I bought for $30 incl shipping. Amazing how little things like this make your car seem new :)

I saved the old one, so I'm still willing to go back in there and try to make this old one work if I need to. For now, the new (to me) one is working great. I also noticed that the board looks quite a bit different, as if they made a few alterations or improvements over the years.

Good to hear. Maybe I need to get a whole replacement assembly for my 94 960 if I can find one. My dome light assembly is very dim in the back seat area, not sure why or if it's normal. The front lights in the dome assembly look nice and bright and work normally. Not sure about the year, looks awfully dim to me.
