Melted Electrical Wires

4 Attachment(s)
Hello

I have a 89 760 Turbo Wagon. I recently discovered some serious melting of electrical wires under the hood (not due to engine heat). Take a look at the attached photo's, and I think you will agree this took some serious heat to melt this portion of the wiring loom.

The car was running ok when I discovered it. It did however blow the windshield wiper fuse the day before.

What do you think my options are for rectifying the problem?

Thanks for you insight.

Well, what you got there looks like a case of the famous Volvo "disintegrating" wiring. Volvo cars were famous for having these problems on cars built between 1983-1987, having eliminated this type of insulation after that. But, here you have it, a proof that some snuck in an '89! What you can do is: change that part of the wiring harness or wrap in new insulation the affected wires which is time consuming and it doesn't last very long--no easy solution. On second look, some of the insulation looks like it might have been damaged by other means, like acid may be, which affected some wires more than others... Still, the solution is the same.
