School me on 4 cylinder 760s...please
 

So there's a 1990 760 turbo intercooler available local to me on Craigslist, with 76k orig. miles and looks like, at least from the pics, to be in great condition.

I've only had 940s/960 bricks, and the 960s were all 6 cylinders.
Are there parts commonality with the 4 cylinder 760s & 740s? UNLIKE the 6 cylinder 960s, and four 940s?

It's going for 2k, as my Dad would have said, "I can't afford not to buy it."

A 1990 760 has the 740 Turbo drive train, 100%same!

The negatives of 760 are:

IRS (independent rear suspension), nice but the shocks are $600 a piece, and assorted bushings are hard to get, expensive to replace.

High security locks that seem not to work as well as 740 ones, but can easily be converted to 740 locks.

Climate control that also doesn't work as well as the simpler 740 system.
There, that's it! Other than that, the 760 is great! Even has an adjustable steering column.

Thanks LEV! That's what I was looking for. I'm looking at '02 saabs, the last year of the 93 hatchback, love those cars, but for dependability I think this is a better bet.

Car has electronic throttle. Cool. But they knew it was going to break:

There is a throttle cable going to the throttle body. They put the throttle position sensor here, unlike on some other cars that just have a potientometer on the pedal. Normally the ECU drives the motor that turns the throttle valve.

When it breaks, the ECU kicks a solenoid that connects the throttle cable to the throttle valve itself, so the pedal moves the throttle valve.

Maddening.

The check engine lamp had been removed from the cluster, owner bought the car that way, I told him I didn't want to see it again... first time in 10 years I haven't been able to fix a car.

Saabs are hateful cars to work on IF you can find anybody to want to touch them... I still like them, the quirkiness, etc, a lot of car for the $ BUT I stay away...
