Lightbulb Volvo 1997 960 Headlights do not work...

Got in the car Friday night to drive it home and the head lights would not come on. About half way home, only 1 mile later, the dash lights went out. So, I'm driving home with my flashers on, thank God I only had a short drive about 2.5 miles. Any ideas are welcome, flashers, turn signals, etc. work along with the parking lights.

My guess is the headlight switch. I'm going to try to swap it out with my '95 850 switch to see if that will fix the problem.

Bad switch. I pulled the switch and found that the lower clips are broken. The switch has a front half and back half. There are two clips at the top and two at the bottom that hold the switch together. The lower clips broke somehow and the bottom of the switch is open about 1/8th of an inch. When I hold the switch closed and turn it on, the lights work fine.

I have super glued the halfs together and will see if the glue holds in about an hour. I have rubber bands keeping pressure on it right now. If that doesn't work, off to the junk yard I go.

Yep. Thanks for your response. I pulled the swith and same thing: lower half clips are broken. I have learned that there was actually a recall on this year's model switch, but not sure if its honored on a used car...

Anyway thanks for your response (even though I now realize i had it posted in the wrong forum!)

Cheers,

Liam

If it's a recall it is for used cars. However, a lot of recalls have an expiration date. I'll check to see if it is still possible to have it fixed under the recall.

Checked with the Stealer here in town and there has been NO recalls for my car. The recall must have been for the V70's.

Also, the stealer said that recalls do not expire.
