$HI@!!! Cam moved, pulleys were off.... HELP!!!

ok well i to the cover over and exposed the camshaft, and the front one i noticed was tilting up and the end where the distributer is was up about 1 1/2". i didn t think anything of it. then after puting the cover back, i took the pulleys of to paint them and to get the belt back on and the wer both turned befor i could mark them. now i got it all back togethor and i try to start it but its just turning. very weak turning almost like the battery is dead and it isnt getting ANY spark. i have not the slightest were to go from here. please, any ideas before i just start tearing it back apart?

So, you're saying you're doing a timing belt, but didn't align the cams with the markings to ensure that it was in time, and now you're starting it over and over to see if you got lucky?

More than likely, you are not getting some valve to piston contact, and that's the reason why the engine won't turn over.. This is very, very bad. - AB

RE: $HI@!!! Cam moved, pulleys were off.... HELP!!!

My son in Law and I did a very similar thing with mine once. My son in law knew it wasn't right and we quit cranking immediately. We only bent two valves and didn't do any further damage. Had to take the head off and took it to a machine shop. If you kept cranking, you probably did some damage. The head will have to come off to see how much. That's why the directions for changing the timing belt tell you to turn it over by hand before using the starter to make sure there is nothing hitting.

I didn't hear it either, but my son in law heard something realy quick and we stopped immediately. He was under the hood and I was turning the key.
