15g turbo upgade (err 850)...
So as I'm learning I have come to realize that I have a 13g straight flange turbo. As I understand it, I can "direct fit" a 15g, now whether this would be mating the 13g hot side to the new 15g "cold" side upgrade or whether it's replacing the entire unit I'm still unsure about.
Furthermore, If I can just hybridize the two I want to be certain that the failure i experienced is correctable by just replacing the "cold" side.
The failure is as follows:
Puffy little clouds of white smoke out of nowhere 1 day, oil is clean, water is wet and everything still appears to function normally (no noises).
Thanks so far Boxpin!

I'm not the expert on what interchanges.
But, if you laid your hands on a 15G it should just bolt on in place of your 13.
The 15G was used on the 94-95 850s and has a conical exhaust housing and is the least desirable of all. There isn't a performance downpipe made for it that I've been able to find. That conical outlet is the most restrictive. I have the 15G
There are three main parts. The intake housing, the exhaust housing and the CHRA or center section. Sounds like the seals in your 13 have worn out.
The question you would want to know is if the exhaust housing off your 13T will fit over the exducer of a 15G without having to do any grinding for clearance and there by be a direct bolt on to your present exhaust. That's if you get a complete 15G. I don't know if you only managed to get the center section of a 15G if the 13's intake housing would fit.
I do know for sure that you can't take a 16T and put a 19T inducer on it. already tried that one. The base diameter of the 19T inducer is larger and will not fit.
You can always just tear the 13T down, order a rebuild kit 55-105 bucks on ebay depending on brand and spend an afternoon cleaning and rebuilding the one you have.
Conical 15G housing on the left and straight flange on the right.

Well... So any other ideas out there? 16t? I am under the impression that I have a straight flange (outlet?).
All said, the turbo has no play in it and spins freely. I saw a DIY on rebuilding them, anyone remember where that is?
Honestly though I really want to consider an upgrade now so that I have higher baseline in the future. 16t seems the other option...

But then you're going to have to get the manifold
Not that you have to but it flows better.

That should give you some place to start.
