1994 turbo 850 control bar ball joint issues

Hi
our old rusty but reliable 1994 turbo 850 sustained a broken left front ball joint while driving.
it's pushed the wheel back into the fender well and pulled the drive shaft out of the transmission

Given we were on a snowy side road going slow 10 mph? maybe 20 and when the ball joint broke slide to a stop

when looking at you tube for repairing ball joints, cv joints etc and looking at our car we're thinking we might get lucky and find putting t
he axle back in and fixing the ball joint (and checking other front end parts) might get us back on the road fairly inexpensively.
When doing a visual inspection of other parts it doesn't appear we've bent them.

the reason for this post is, what might we be missing in thinking this might be an easy repair.
pics below, we'd appreciate your comments

cheers

you will need a new control arm - I'm also thinking you need to repair the boots on the axle (at best, at worst you need a new axle) and the seals/clips going into the transmission. Its also possible you broke the end link to the sway bar and tore out the ABS sensor (which will sent off the ABS warning light). Safe to assume this is on the driver's side?

HI thanks for the comment's here's some more pics.
yes it's the drivers side
abs wire seems ok, came out of the clip near the strut but seems ok at the plug.
control arm seems ok at where it attaches to the frame but the ball joint has pulled right out of the control arm....
so not sure if the control arm has torqued and needs changing or just that the ball pull right out may mean the control arm needs changing too
strut seem ok , sway bar looks straight. (other than the factory bend part)
yes it will need axle parts to hold it into the tranny
she's not had regular maintenance for many years so yes almost certainly she needs lots of work in this case axle cv boots and ball joint etc.
I realize we are close or past the point of spending good money after bad.
does it make sense to spend $500 and have it running. or maybe a grand.
if it runs it worth a grand. if it's not running its worth nothing as where we live selling parts not realistic ( and having it in pieces in dads driveway not worth his effort,
kid will be out of town at school and will be dads issue.
I"m thinking if we can get it to the shop they can say ya or nay.
but $100 for a tow might be a deal breaker.
so.....hmmm if the ball joint broke out of the highway doing 80- km an hour (50 mph) I"d likely say forget it.
but at 10-20 mph on a slippery road maybe...
on a fun note, having the kids home for reading break was an awesome thought. Now that they are home the fridge is empty, the laundry needs doing, and the bank of dad is about to go down....lovem, will be glad when the house is empty again:)

How is the brake hose and upper strut mount?

firebirdparts 02-20-2019 10:09 AM

That's quite abusive to the strut and the strut upper mounting point. You may find one or both is bent.
