1997 850 volvo or a 1995 850 Turbo volvo
Please let me know what you all think.
Should I purchase the 1997 850 volvo with 70,000 miles on it or a 1995 850 Turbo volvo with 84,000 miles on it.
The 97 has cloth seats and the 95 turbo has leather seats... (not that that matters much)
I bought a 1994 850 volvo with the SRF light on. I took it to a volvo dealer and they said it was the seat belt. They fixed it. Then within 2 weeks the light came back on and within the day the airbags deployed on my 18 year old son while at a red light and now the car is totalled.
I had just put in all new brakes and rooters etc.. 1400.00 and the seat belt fixed 400.00 plus paying 2000.00 for the car. Had it a month.
I am told it is not worth getting it fixed. So, now I have to buy another one.
Can you help me with this decision.
thank you

Quick questions:
Did the air bags deploy in an accident or just sitting at a light? The way you wrote that makes it seem like Volvo might have done something, and if that were the case I would imagine a "legal" talk with the service manager might get your car fixed.
And yes, is the car for you or your son?
I know if you were my dad I would be rooting for you to buy the 95 turbo.
In October I purchased a 1995 850 GLT sedan. I got tired of it and wanted a turbo and a wagon, so I bought a 1996 850 T wagon (see sig).
I like it.
Theres always part of me that wants to sell this and buy another Celica, but I doubt that will happen.
How much do the cars you are looking at cost? The ten thousand mile difference is nothing to scoff at.

Yes, the car is for my 18 year old son, which is why I am hesitant in buying a turbo for him. Also, yes the car was just sitting there and the air bags deployed. I called the dealer and they acted like it was not there fault. I guess because I am a woman ..
Both cars are at this dealer. Ane price is very firm. They claim it is a fair price.

If it was for me, for the fun and wow factor I would probably go with the 95.......this one looks really clean and according to the website has a warranty, which is awesome. However, the 97 wins over on practicality. It looks like one of the "base models" with no turbo, cloth seats, and lower miles, which means potentially less problems, better gas mileage, and one less electronic item to malfunction, which is good for me, because I drive a fair amount. (I put almost 4,000 miles on my 960 this month). The 97 is also newer, which is a plus, and it carries the same warranty (according to site) If your 18 year old is going to use this as reliable and safe transportation through college, I would go with the 97. Let someone who has more time and $$ to spend get their hands on the 95.
Turbos are nice, the are considered the fastest production wagon made. I have a 1995 855t and it is a joy driving.
Check with your insurance to see how much they are to insure. That may be the deciding factor.

touch call, but i would also go with the 95 turbo, i like the look of the car (with the mags too)..it's also a 95 (OB1) and a bit more simple than the 97...my only concern is with the turbo...i'm always a little worried about them (mechanically)....g'luck!

Wow how many people said turbo...turbo...turbo....turbo.
+1 on the Turbo.
Just because he is 18 doesn't mean he will disrespect the will of the parents or the car.
Iwas giving my 91 745 turbo wagon at the age of 16. And now I am 19 and I love the turbo, respect her as my own, and do regular maintenance myself.
My also being in California where the people are nuts
, I feel driving aroundin a car with only 168hp
is not safe when trying to merge on the highway.
Also the turbo model should give no trouble as long as it gets regualr maintenance and a little TLC (time love and care).
Just my 2cents

Hmm
Here's on thing no one really addressed.
Before you buy another car, you NEED to take your existing Volvo with the blown bags to an honest shop and have them inspect the airbag system.
There may be a way out of this.
We were given some support from Dell because we suspected them treating my mom unfairly because she's a woman.
My father called and mentioned speaking to an attorney because Dell does not respect woman and they sent us a brand new computer free of charge.
Call the dealer and mention something like that.
You might be surprised.
