1997 850r QUICK QUESTION
Heyo guys just a quick question for y'all. So ive been reading in the forums and using your guys' info and discussions to help me with working on my volvo 850r. Thanks a ton!
Its a Red 1997 850r with 100k miles and ive put a few upgrades into it Msd Coil Full stage 0 IPD spark plug wires IPD Intake IPD Exhaust IPD Tower Brace IPD springs and Shocks/struts BOV(cuz i like the sound) Boost guage and AF guage ARD Tune w/ 15g turbo Mocal 19 row tranny cooler and new fluid So i read on forums that the 850r auto tranny can hold 300Hp. And that its been seen to hold a lot more with More frequent trans fluid changes and a trans cooler. When people said 300hp limit are they talking about crank or wheel? What am i looking at my new limits being now that I have the cooler and fluid? p.s. im getting a dyno run done next week to see the power it currently makes |
the question is probably more about how you intend to drive. If you going to simply want to drop stoplight to stoplight times the 300 HP guidance is conservative. If you will be towing, driving in mountains where you are putting down high power over long periods, even with the cooler you should stay around 300. In my personal opinion, the question then becomes what should your set up be. I'd guess that with a 15G and an ARD tune you are probably in the 260-75 range today. If you go to a 16T or add a 3" downpipe you will probably be in the 300-315 range which would be about where you'd want to stop, both from a cost and a performance range.

With your mods you are not going to come close to exceeding 300hp so dont worry.
