3.8 Buick Turbo engine
 

I have as stated in the title turbo Buick engine and trans with shift kit. from a 87 GN that makes very close to 400Hp at the flywheel. Now my first car love was an 850R station wagon. And I love the fact that both 850R and the turbo buicks are both sleeper cars. But the problem is the FWD. I wanted to stick with the boxy front end and love the wheels on the 96 "R" so i didn't reall want to go V70. But has anyone ever done a RWD conversion. I'm sure they have. I just wanted to know how crazy I am and maybe some ideas. Opinions

I would think not, seeing that you could just buy a different volvo and be done with it...

I know it's not "the same", but there are a million supercharged front driver 3800's in the junkyard.

Another option (perhaps for the truly desperate) is 1984-85 Rivieras were built with GN engines and front wheel drive. You could buy that transmission (non GN version) for probably $100 or less. I would not want to invest a bunch of engineering in that if it was me. For one thing, I think you could do better with a Turbo volvo than all that.

The closest your going to get to a RWD 850 is going to be an AWD...and they exist.

Simple solution, purchase v90 which is rear-wheel drive.

thanks for all the good ideas. years away project i dont have a garage right now. Glad so far i havent been yelled at by any purest. good looking out everyone

good suggestion but i dont know about that front end even though its a little more aero-dynamic. something to def think about save time and money.

thanks for the info i think the 3800 series you were thinking of and correct me if im wrong are from the early 90s buicks and arent built as tuff or as fast. Thats what i've read could be wrong

Since you asked, the 3800 is far more tough. Just less fast. You can't turn the boost up on a supercharger!

But you can replace pulleys quickly and for relatively cheap, which in turn adds more boost ;) And if you start out with a SII or SIII 3800, how much more power do you really need lol :rolleyes:

It sounds like the op is correct, the engine you are referring to is actually to the 3.8 TPI. Same displacement as the 3800, but completely different engines.
